Botanical Candles Are Designed to Burn Differently
Rosy Rings Botanical Candles are intentionally designed to create a beautiful lantern effect as they burn. A ring of wax is meant to remain around the outside of the candle, where our real botanicals are placed.
This wax ring is intentional. It is not tunneling. Do not burn through the outer ring or allow the flame to reach the botanicals. The result is a glowing lantern effect that lets the candlelight shine through while preserving the botanicals around the outside.
Follow the care instructions below to help your Rosy Rings candle burn beautifully, safely, and as intended.
The First Burn Is the Most Important
Think of your candle’s first burn as setting its memory. Wax has a memory. The shape of the wax pool created during the first few burns influences how your candle will continue to burn. If the candle is extinguished too soon, it can develop a narrow wax pool and begin to tunnel.
Recommended First Burn Times
As a general guideline, burn for approximately 1 hour for every inch of candle diameter. Do not burn your candle for more than 5 hours at a time.
| Candle | Recommended First Burn |
|---|---|
| Petite Botanical | Up to 2 hours |
| Accent Botanical | Up to 4 hours |
| Signature Botanical | Up to 5 hours |
| Statement Botanical | Up to 3.5 hours |
| Centerpiece Botanical | Up to 5 hours |
| Petite Pressed Floral | Up to 2 hours |
| Accent Pressed Floral | Up to 2 hours |
The Beauty of the Glow
Your Botanical Candle is designed to glow from within. As it burns, allow a warm, liquid wax pool to form while leaving a ring of wax around the outside edge. This intentional ring holds the botanicals in place and creates the beautiful lantern-like glow that makes our Botanical Candles so special.
For the best effect, allow the wax pool to reach approximately ½ inch deep and remain 1–2 inches from the outside edge. Do not burn your candle all the way to the botanicals. The magic is in letting the candle create its own glow.
How to Burn Your Botanical Candle
Trim the Wick
Before each burn, allow your candle to cool completely, then trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch. A properly trimmed wick helps maintain a steady, controlled flame while reducing smoking, soot, and excess heat.
Before lighting, be sure to remove any wick trimmings or other debris from the wax.
Choose the Right Spot
Always burn your candle on a level, heat-resistant, non-flammable surface. For best results, we recommend placing your candle on a candle plate.
Keep your candle away from children and pets, drafts and breezes, fans and air-conditioning vents, open windows, curtains, paper, linens, and anything else that could catch fire.
Moving air can cause the flame to flicker and burn unevenly, which may lead to excess soot and uneven wax consumption. A calm, still environment helps your candle burn beautifully and evenly.
While Your Candle Is Burning
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep the flame within sight and away from anything that could catch fire, and keep children and pets at a safe distance. If the flame becomes unusually tall, flickers excessively, or begins to smoke, extinguish the candle, allow it to cool completely, and trim the wick before lighting again.
Allow your Botanical Candle to burn on its own, without moving or disturbing it while the wax is liquid. Never touch or move a burning candle, and avoid placing anything in or near the flame. If you need to leave the room, even briefly, extinguish the candle first.
For the best burn, keep the surrounding area calm and free from drafts. A still environment allows the flame to remain steady and helps your candle burn evenly.
Extinguishing & Caring for Your Candle After Each Burn
When you’re ready to extinguish your candle, we recommend using a wick dipper or candle snuffer for a clean, controlled extinguish. Never pour water onto a burning or hot candle.
Allow the candle to cool completely before moving it or touching the wax. Once cool, remove any wick trimmings or debris from the wax and check that the wick is still trimmed to approximately ¼ inch before the next burn.
As your candle reaches the end of its life, discontinue use when approximately 1 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel. Never burn a candle all the way to the bottom.
Never leave a candle burning unattended, and always extinguish it before leaving the room or going to sleep.
Enjoy the Ritual
And most importantly, let your candle burn the way it was designed to burn.
With Rosy Rings Botanical Candles, that beautiful ring of wax around the edge is part of the experience. It's the lantern effect. It's what allows your candle to glow from within and makes every burn part of the ritual.
And remember, life is too short to save the pretty candle. Burn it. Enjoy the fragrance, savor the glow, and make an ordinary moment feel a little more special.
