Diffuser FAQs

We recommend flipping reed sticks a minimum of every 2 weeks. With this in mind, we predict a life of 1-2 months per ounce of the diffuser. Keep in mind that the more often reed sticks are flipped, the quicker the oil will dissipate.

Yes, you can now purchase 6oz Diffuser Refills in all of our Signature Fragrances.

If you notice your diffuser isn’t strong or if you want more fragrance, it’s time to flip the reeds. We like to flip our reeds once every couple of weeks.

Candle FAQs

Our candle burn times vary depending on the product. Our burn times for individual items can be found on the product page. Several things determine the burn time, such as number and size of wicks, size of the candle, and type of wax.

For Botanical Candles:
Ideally you want a candle well (wax pool) that is ½” deep and extends 1” to 2” less than the total diameter of the candle. You may need to let the candle burn for an extended time the first few times you enjoy it, just be sure to keep an eye on it. Once the well is established, please continue to burn your candle responsibly.

For Container Candles:
You want to burn your candle long enough to liquefy the top layer of wax. Typically this will take 1 hour for every inch of the diameter, though that timeframe can vary depending on environmental factors, such as oxygen levels, drafts or airflow, and temperatures. By allowing the candle to liquefy nearly edge to edge, it will keep the opening wide enough to prevent future tunneling.

Some candles are not designed to consume all of the wax, and might still have a small layering of wax on the sides of the container as well as in the bottom of the candle. Your candle has reached the end of its useful life when there is ⅛” to ¼” of wax left in the bottom of the candle. This is taken into account during the candle design process and burn time designation. Please do not burn your candle past this point, as you will risk damaging the vessel or its surroundings.

Our wax is a proprietary blend and varies from candle to candle. Our botanical candles + votives contain food grade paraffin, our container candles are a coconut wax blend, and our pillar botanical candles are made with 100% soy + vegetable all natural wax. Our products are phthalate-free, paraben-free, and never tested on animals. When deciding on a wax, it’s important to us to ensure that we find a high quality and sustainable wax that meets our performance standards. If you have any specific concerns on any other ingredients, please contact us directly at info@rosyrings.com.

We use a food grade paraffin in some of our candles, mainly our botanical candles. The paraffin helps the candles keep their shape and allows transparency, so the botanicals show throw.

Paraffin has gotten a bad rap over the years. According to the National Candle Association (NCA), there has been no scientific data proving paraffin to be dangerous to human health. You can read more about it here.

Our customer’s health is of utmost importance to us, and we constantly review all the studies put forth by NCA. If the data should ever suggest different results, rest assured that we will continue our dedication to producing a safe and healthy candle.

We always use lead-free, cotton wicks with varying cores consisting of zinc, fiber and paper. We strongly recommend keeping the wick trimmed to ¼ inch at all times. This helps eliminate unwanted soot gathering at the top of the wick and will ensure you get the most burning time out of your candle. We trim our wicks every time we light our candles. You can learn more about wick maintenance and candle safety here. We understand that there is a lot of information about wicks out there. Our candles go through very rigorous testing to ensure the proper wick choice to
meet our performance and safety standards.

We work hard to choose a wick that works best for your candle’s burn. Depending on the shape and size of the candle, additional wicks are sometimes required to achieve the best performance while achieving the longest burn time and ensuring a safe product. You can learn more about wick maintenance and candle safety here.

1 | Remove the Packaging

Before lighting for the first time, remove any wrappers + labels from your candle.

2 | Trim the Wick

To ensure the best life of your candle, keep your wick trimmed to ¼” at all times. Candles with more than 1 wick should be trimmed to the same height to promote an even burn. A wick that is too long will cause excess smoke and soot, along with excess wick debris to collect at the top of the wick. An untrimmed wick can also cause the candle to burn too hot, which can affect the
fragrance and cause your candle to burn up faster than necessary. When wick trimming, you should always extinguish the flame, let the candle wax come to room temperature, and trim the wick before relighting.

*Wick trimmers are a popular candle accessory to have on hand, especially when your candle has been burned a few times. The long handle allows you to easily reach the wick, especially when your candle is nearing the bottom. Their clever design allows you to not only clip the burned wick debris, but also collect it for easy retrieval.

3 | Let the Wax Pool + Limit Burn Time

As with all candles, the first few burns are the most important. Pay attention to where the wax pool is before you extinguish your botanical candle. The target goal is approximately 1” to 1.5” from the edge. Most candles, especially our botanical candles, can have varied results depending on multiple factors ranging from variants in components to the environment the candle is burning in. Each time you burn your candle, try to allow the top layer to become a warm pool of liquid wax and you’ll get the most life from your candle. As a general rule for all candles, we don’t recommend burning any candle for more than 1 hour for every inch in diameter – or 1 hour for every inch between wicks for any candle with multiple wicks (like our travel tins, brick botanical candles, and limited botanical candles), though there could be situations where specific burn instructions supersede this general rule.

4 | Burn it Safely

Always burn your candle on a level, non-flammable surface. Do not place directly on furnishings or linens. Avoid using in drafty areas and keep away from flammable materials. Never leave your candle unattended while lit. If you notice anything unusual happening such as the container getting too hot, the wick “falling” towards the edges of the container, or an unusually large wax pool, please extinguish your candle immediately. If you feel like you’ve followed all the burn instructions properly, and you are still experiencing these situations, please email info@rosyrings.com for assistance.
